Great day hiking in upstate NY. Black Creek Preserve is a wonderful spot for the dog to stop and swim. But when we asked her to jump the stream, she nearly drowned. I blame it on her epilepsy medication. It’s not easy swimming when you are on drugs. I’ve tried it.
Tempus Magazine is the inflight magazine of Tempus Jets, one of the largest private aviation companies in the world. The magazine’s goal is to bring awareness and intrigue to interesting topics. The portraits I shot of Matiwos are to introduce you to an amazing story and even more amazing boy. Matiwos grew up in multiple orphanages in Ethiopia until one Connecticut family, the Rumleys, adopted the 7 year old boy and brought him to the United States. In less than a year, Matiwos has adjusted to his new life so well, he has learned to speak fluent English, compete in many sports including football, in which he has won the NFL sponsored competition, Punt, Pass & Kick in his division. Some might say it’s a Hollywood story.
This is the beginning of an ongoing series of portraits, of the peeps I know. I call it, Dark and Mysterious. Catchy, I don’t know…maybe.
This time we brought a map! Great day hiking at Catamount Mountain and we did not get lost. It was a wonderful 4 hour hike and it did not take up 7 days to recover, like our last adventure.

Over Easter weekend we took a fun adventure searching for the Lemon Squeezer on the Appalachian Trail. I was surprised we found it since I failed to bring a map on this hike. With no map and GPS a 3 hour hike turned into a 6 hour hike. It took a few days for our muscles to heal but it was totally worth it. And yes, next time I’m bringing a map!
I really enjoyed working on this project with NYU Athletics. The athletes had fabulous attitudes and worked hard on set to get the shot. It was a fun shoot for everybody. I also had an opportunity to show off my terrible basketball skills.
Seeing the Lopez brothers compete against one another at the Barclays Center, last night, brings me back to when I photographed them on NBA Draft day, for Levis and Dime Magazine. Brook is a stand up guy. All smiles!
